The efficiency minimum increased: Under Canada’s energy efficiency rules for central air conditioners, the least efficient unit you’re legally allowed to install today is a better, more efficient machine than the cheapest legal unit a few years ago. A better baseline unit costs a little more to build, so the entry price rose with it.
Labour and permit costs went up: Nothing dramatic here, just more increases contributing to higher installation prices.
