Gas Burning Fireplaces

Gas fireplaces are versatile, and many have dynamic heat controls that allow you to choose where the flow of heat is directed. A gas fireplace can be direct vent (which vents combustion gasses directly outside) or vent-free (which uses indoor air to fuel the combustion process and vents safely into the room).

A gas fireplace can have the look and feel of a wood fire, without any of the work or mess. Or it can be in a more contemporary, minimalist style.

Wood Burning Fireplaces
Wood-burning fireplaces offer an irreplaceable atmosphere, from the scent, sound, and feel of building a fire yourself. Husky can help you maintain the tradition of a fireplace with Continental’s wood-burning fireplaces that exceed EPA standards. Add real warmth and the cozy, classic feeling of nostalgia to any room.

Common Fireplace FAQ

Direct Vent vs. Vent-Free Fireplaces

Gas fireplaces can either be direct vent or ventless, each with its own pros and cons.

Direct vent fireplaces won’t have any interaction with the air inside your home. Their venting system is completely sealed, drawing in fresh outdoor air for combustion and exhausting any combustion gases out of your home. This is the optimal choice for homes worried about keeping out allergens, dust, or odors.

Vent-free fireplaces don’t need any vent pipe, which makes them ideal if you’d like a fireplace in an area of your home that doesn’t allow for venting. Vent-free units are very efficient and have a great heat output, which can help save on utility bills during the cold winter months.

Do Fireplaces Need to be Cleaned?

Regularly cleaning your electric fireplace can help prevent dust, cobwebs, and other materials from building up in and around the unit. You can clean it yourself in between service appointments—just ensure it’s turned off and cool to the touch before wiping down the fireplace.

While cleaning, keep an eye out for any problems that will require attention. These include:

  • Gas odours
  • Soot buildup on the logs or glass
  • A pilot light that won’t stay lit (or won’t light at all)
  • Ignition delays
  • White film on the glass
  • The fireplace turning on or off on its own
How Long do Gas or Electric Fireplaces Last?

As long as you’re properly maintaining and cleaning it, a typical gas or electric fireplace can last 10-15 years. The higher the quality of the initial installation, as well as the type of fireplace, will have an affect on the lifespan of your fireplace. How often it’s used will also be a factor in how long your fireplace lasts—if you use your fireplace to help heat your home in winter, it’ll have a shorter lifespan than if you only occasionally use it on chilly days.
