Our customers love the Navien brand for a number of reasons – but mostly because they’re incredibly reliable and their condensing technology makes them the most energy efficient tankless water heaters money can buy.

They are also less expensive to install – there is no need to upgrade your gas line to a different size if your home is currently set up for a regular tank.

“After having an issue with our hot water tank from our original provider and no hot water for 6 days with no resolution to our problem, I contacted Husky Heating and Air Conditioning. They came to our home to do an assessment of our hot water tank options the same day that I contacted them and were here 9 AM the following day to install a new tankless hot water system. Husky’s service was fantastic, and the installers were very professional and courteous. They even removed the old hot water tank from our home… I highly recommend Husky.”

12 Reasons to Choose a Navien Tankless Water Heater

Energy_Star logoHere are a number of great reasons to pick a Navien for your home. All of the Navien water heaters we carry come with these great benefits (individual specs are shown below):

  1. Ultra efficient. All models are EnergyStar qualified.
  2. Installation is much cheaper than some tankless brands. Naviens use the same gauge gas line (½”) as your old water tank. No need to upgrade your gas line.
  3. Easy installation and servicing. Regular 2” PVC pipe can be used for venting because only a small amount of heat escapes from the unit. Venting pipe runs can be up to 60 feet long.
  4. Almost no waste of heat. Navien is a leader in condensing technology, in which waste heat is captured and used to preheat the incoming water supply.
  5. No “cold water sandwich”. The ComfortFlow recirculator ensures hot water on demand, with no breaks in the supply of hot water.
  6. Works no matter how much hot water you need. For very large hot water demands, two or more units can be used.
  7. Excellent warranty coverage. Up to 15 years on the heat exchanger and 5 years on other parts and components, plus 1 year labour (will depend on other equipment your Navien is connected to).
  8. Built to last. Heat exchangers are made of stainless steel to resist corrosion better than standard copper exchangers. Stainless steel also resists that white scale mineral buildup that results from hard water. Navien was the first manufacturer to use stainless steel.
  9. Qualifies for a number of provincial and other rebates. Ask Husky which rebates are happening now.
  10. Almost zero risk of flooding. Navien uses a special failsafe device to shut off the water in the event of a problem.
  11. Wi-fi remote controllable. The New NaviLink technology allows you to control your water heater and get usage data from your smartphone.
  12. Ultra low emissions. NOx ≤ 20 PPM.

These are just the highlights – ask Husky about the full list of benefits.

Definitions of Technical Terms Used Above

AFUE

AFUE stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. It means the percentage of natural gas that is converted to heat. The higher the number, the better.

Flow Rate

Flow rate is a measure of how much hot water your Navien will produce. It’s measured in gallons per minute or litres per minute. Please note that the flow rate will depend on how high you set the temperature on the water heater.

Is a Tankless Model Right for You?

tank or tankless?Tankless water heaters are perfect for people who plan to stay in their homes for many years. Because tankless water heaters are way more energy efficient than water tanks, you’ll recoup the installation cost in energy savings over time.

Navien Tankless vs. Hot Water Tanks

If you’re not sure if you want to make the switch to a tankless water heater, read on to help narrow your options down.

Hot Water Tank Advantages

  • Affordable upfront cost
  • Fast and simple installation process
  • Maintenance is straightforward and affordable
  • Stronger water flow rate
  • Improved energy efficiency
  • Emergency availability of water

It makes sense to install a hot water tank if you’re not planning to stay in your current home long-term, if your home’s electrical capacity is 200 amps or less, or if you’d like to avoid the expense of adding a gas line.

Navien Tankless Water Heater Advantages

  • On-demand hot water
  • Energy efficiency (no wasted energy keeping water hot)
  • Less expensive operation
  • Financial perks (such as rebates or incentives)
  • Lasts up to 20 years
  • Trim, wall-mounted profile that saves space
  • No risk of household damage due to undetected leaks

If you’re staying in your home long enough to realize energy savings over time, if you have a high demand for hot water, or if you live in a small space where every bit of space matters, a tankless heater might be right for you.

Do Navien Tankless Water Heaters Save You Money?

There’s no question that tankless water heaters are usually more efficient than hot water tanks. According to the US Department of Energy, homes that use 41 gallons or less of hot water daily will see on-demand water heaters being 24%-34% more energy efficient than conventional storage tank water heaters. This greater efficiency can lead to an average of $108 in annual savings.

Energy efficiency alone doesn’t always equate to overall savings. You also have to consider the cost of installation, which are often higher than storage water tank heaters. However, tankless water heaters have a much longer lifespan than storage heaters.

Consider your living situation: are you planning to stay in your house for many years? Do you often find yourself running out of hot water? Is your storage water tank taking up valuable space that you’d rather have back? If the answer is yes to some or all of these questions, our line of Navien products might be the right option for you.
