Every Husky air conditioner installed is backed by our Satisfaction Guarantee. If something isn’t right after we leave, we come back and fix it. Husky has built five decades of customer relationships in the GTA on follow-through, not one-time sales.

Husky has won the Top Choice Award for Best Heating and Air Conditioning in Vaughan multiple times, the HomeStars Best of Award in 2019 and 2021, and the Dave Lennox Signature Award.

We’ve also been featured as a contractor on TV’s Love It or List It. The recognition matters because it reflects what our HomeStars customer reviews confirm every day: we treat every home like our own.

5 Stars

“My AC decided to “bite the dust” the Friday before the sweltering long weekend so I had to scramble to get a replacement. I wanted a brand I could trust at a fair price and landed on Husky dealing with Dmitri who pulled together the right Lennox air conditioning units at a fair price. Sam and his assistant did a great job installing both units and addressed some venting issues with my old furnace…..thanks guys!”

How To Buy The Right Air Conditioner For Your Toronto Home

The best air conditioner for your home is not always the biggest or most expensive model. It is the system that is properly sized, installed correctly, and matched to your home’s layout, ductwork, comfort needs, and budget.

Proper Sizing: Why Bigger Isn’t Always Better

It might sound smart to go bigger than you need, but an oversized AC actually performs worse than a properly sized one.

An AC unit with too much capacity cools the air quickly and shuts off before it has a chance to pull humidity out of the home, leaving rooms cool but clammy. It also short-cycles, turning on and off repeatedly, which wears out the compressor faster and drives up your energy bill.

An undersized unit has the opposite problem. It runs constantly, trying to keep up on hot days, never quite getting the house comfortable.

The right AC size for your home is a proper load calculation that accounts for your home’s square footage, insulation, window orientation, ceiling height, and air sealing. Your Husky representative will walk you through this before recommending any equipment.

Understanding SEER2 Ratings and Energy Efficiency

SEER2 (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2) is the current efficiency standard for air conditioners and heat pumps sold in Canada, governed by Natural Resources Canada.

SEER2 replaced the older SEER rating in 2023 with a tougher test that better reflects real-world performance.

Currently, 13.4 SEER2 is Canada’s current minimum efficiency for split-system central air conditioners. For most Toronto homes, a mid-tier system in the 16 to 18 SEER2 range strikes the best balance between upfront cost and long-term energy savings.

Premium variable-speed models in the 20+ SEER2 range cost more but deliver superior comfort, quieter operation, and better humidity control. Higher efficiency units also typically qualify for larger specials & rebates.

Single Zone vs. Multi-Zone Cooling

A single-zone central AC pushes cooled air through your existing ductwork from one thermostat. It works well for most Toronto homes with consistent layouts and good insulation.

You may want multi-zone cooling if:

  • Your home has rooms that get significantly hotter than others (south or west-facing rooms, finished attics, additions)
  • Different family members prefer different temperatures
  • You have a multi-storey home where the upper floor runs warmer than the main level
  • You want to avoid cooling unoccupied rooms to save energy

Multi-zone setups use separate thermostats and zone dampers. In the case of ductless air conditioners, individual indoor heads in each room.

No Existing Ductwork? Ductless AC May Be the Answer

Older Toronto homes, especially century houses and those originally heated with hot-water radiators or baseboard heaters, often lack ductwork. Running new ducts through finished walls and ceilings is expensive and messy.

Ductless mini-split air conditioners solve this by mounting compact indoor heads on the wall or ceiling of each room, connected to an outdoor condenser via small refrigerant lines.

They cool effectively, look clean, and don’t require tearing into your home’s structure. Husky installs ductless systems from Carrier, Lennox, and Mitsubishi.

Noise Levels and What to Expect

Central air conditioners consist of two parts: an outdoor condensing unit and an indoor evaporator coil or air handler.

The condenser is usually the noisier component, and modern units have improved; many quieter premium models run around 50 to 60 decibels, while louder standard units can be noticeably higher.

If quiet operation is a priority, especially if your bedroom window faces the condenser, let your Husky representative know upfront. We’ll recommend a quieter model and pay extra attention to placement and vibration isolation during installation.

The Brands Husky Installs: Lennox and Carrier

We focus on two of the most respected names in the HVAC industry.

Lennox is known for premium-tier efficiency and ultra-quiet operation. Their Signature Collection includes models with SEER2 ratings up to 25.8 and variable-capacity compressors that run as low as around 59 decibels.

Carrier remains one of the most widely recognized HVAC brands in North America. Their Infinity series offers variable-speed cooling and strong humidity control, while the Performance and Comfort series cover mid-tier and entry-level options.

Both brands offer 10-year parts warranties upon registration, and Husky backs every installation with a warranty under our Satisfaction Guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most central air conditioning installations average around $5,000 to $8,000. Your actual quote depends on the factors detailed in the cost section above, including home size, SEER2 rating, brand and tier, and any ductwork or electrical upgrades.

A typical new air conditioner installation in Toronto takes 4 to 8 hours. If you’re replacing an existing system and the job involves additional ductwork or electrical work, plan for a full day. Husky always confirms the expected timeline before we start.

Rough rule of thumb: a 1,500 square foot home usually needs about 2 to 2.5 tons of cooling capacity, a 2,000 square foot home around 2.5 to 3 tons, and a 3,000 square foot home roughly 3.5 to 4 tons. The accurate way to size, though, is a Manual J load calculation that factors in insulation, windows, ceiling height, sun exposure, and air sealing. Husky performs a sizing calculation for every quote.

In many cases, yes. Requirements depend on the scope of the work, so Husky will confirm which apply to your installation and obtain the necessary permits on your behalf before the job begins.

Canada’s minimum efficiency standard, per Natural Resources Canada, is 13.4 SEER2. ENERGY STAR-certified units start at about 14.5 SEER2. For Toronto’s climate, with hot and humid summers but a relatively short cooling season, 16 to 18 SEER2 is usually the sweet spot for value. Higher-end variable-speed systems in the 20+ SEER2 range make sense if you run the AC heavily, plan to stay in the home long-term, or want premium comfort features like tighter humidity control and ultra-quiet operation.

You don’t need to. Ductless mini-split air conditioners cool effectively without any ductwork at all. They use small refrigerant lines to connect indoor wall-mounted heads to an outdoor condenser, so installation is far less invasive than retrofitting ducts into a finished home. Husky installs ductless air conditioners from Carrier, Lennox, and Mitsubishi, ideal for older Toronto homes, additions, finished basements, and rooms where central air struggles to reach.

A properly installed and well-maintained central air conditioner typically lasts 15 to 20 years. Annual maintenance, regular filter changes, and keeping the outdoor unit clear of debris all extend lifespan. Skipping maintenance, on the other hand, can cut years off the system’s useful life. Husky offers protection and maintenance plans that include annual tune-ups to keep your unit running at peak performance.

First, we have 50+ years of installing air conditioners across the GTA, with multiple Top Choice and HomeStars awards to show for it. Second, we don’t use subcontractors. The NATE-certified technician who installs your AC is a Husky employee, and we stand behind the work with a satisfaction guarantee. And third, we’re a Lennox Premier Dealer and Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, so you get the best warranties, the newest equipment, and installers trained directly by the manufacturers.
